| Function |
The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial administrative body whose purpose is to carry out the provisions of N. C. General Statutes 153A-345 and the provisions of Articles IV, VI, VII, XII and XIV of the county's Zoning Ordinance. This board has three primary duties which include granting conditional use permits, granting variances and conducting administrative review hearings on appeals of rulings made by the Zoning Administrator. All meetings are conducted in a formal, court-like manner with testimony being received under oath. Any appeal of a ruling made by the Board of Adjustment goes to Superior Court within the time specified by State Statues. |

| Special Requirements |
All members and alternates shall be residents of Harnett County. Each County Commissioner's District shall have one representative on the Board of Adjustment. Members and alternates shall be appointed by the Harnett County Board of Commissioners to terms of office of three years and shall serve at the discretion of the Harnett County Board of Commissioners. Members and alternates of the Board shall be limited to two consecutive terms. |
