Board/Committee CEMETERY BOARD OF TRUSTEES Authorization North Carolina General Statute 65 - Cemeteries (See Resolution adopted by the Harnett County Board of Commissioners 09-07-93) Function Review the present list of cemeteries and determine which of these meet the definition for abandoned cemetery; determine the county's role in regard to the protection and maintenance of abandoned cemeteries; bring recommendations to the Board of Commissioners as to how the county can fulfill its obligation in the most economic fashion; develop a public information program which would be designed to inform the public of the county's role in relation to abandoned cemeteries and would encourage their support and cooperation in those efforts; investigate reported encroachments of abandoned cemeteries and recommend appropriate action to the county; prepare and keep list on file at Register of Deeds of all public cemeteries in County with names and addresses of persons in possession and control of same; add to that list the public cemeteries that have been abandoned and furnish such list to Director of Publications, Secretary of State, Raleigh, NC; encourage persons in possession and control to take care of and beautify cemeteries; lay out, define and mark boundary lines of abandoned cemeteries.
