Criminal Disposition Court

Disposition Court

Disposition Court is usually set by an officer for minor traffic citations. If your traffic ticket allows you to appear in court anytime between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., your case has been set in Disposition Court.

YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO COME AT 9:00 AM; BUT MAY COME LATER – I.E. BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 9:00 AM TO 4:00 PM.

Disposition Court was created due to the overwhelming number of traffic citations issued in Harnett County. Prior to Disposition Court, traffic citations were calendared on a day when the issuing officer was available to testify in court. A court appearance had to be made at 9:00 a.m. If someone appeared late, they were said to have failed to appear. Since the docket was overwhelmingly long, many people could expect to wait for hours before the court was able to reach their ticket. Sometimes, tickets had to be continued to another court date because they couldn’t be reached before the end of the day, forcing people to take another day off from work.

Now, Disposition Court allows you to come to court at your convenience – anytime between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on your court date. This allows you to obtain a possible reduction on your ticket from the prosecutor or pay off your ticket without waiting at the courthouse for hours. If you want to plead not guilty or not responsible instead of receiving a reduction on your citation, your case will be continued to a date when the officer is available to testify in court.

Disposition Court is informal and convenient, allowing more tickets to be processed much more rapidly and efficiently.
All tickets must be paid with cash, money order, or certified check on the day of court.
