Honor Guard

In January 2004, members from the Harnett County Fire Marshal's Office came together and formed what is known as The Harnett County Emergency Services Honor Guard. The small group consisted of three members, who researched and talked to other organizations accross the State of North Carolina for valuable information on how to start this organization. In March of 2004, the group had put together a small slideshow and packet of information for what this organization could offer back to the hero's of this county, state, and country. The terrible tragedy of September 11, 2001, that changed this world of emergency responders from the biggest city to the smallest town has brought a new meaning to us and what we do as our profession, and as a volunteer. We carried this information to our county Chiefs Meeting, and presented to them what we felt would be a great asset to our emergency responder field. Over the next month, each Chief had the oppurtunity to think about what we can do from this organization, and in April 2004, there was a 100% vote from the Chiefs organization to form the County Honor Guard. In May 2004, the first Honor Guard meeting was held, and the organization had a strong group of 25 members of fire and ems personell from accross the county.

On the third year anniversery of September 11, the Harnett County Emergency Services Honor Guard was completely formed, dressed in uniform, opened three ceremonoies throughout the county with full Honors for the ones who gave all to this county, their department, and the ones who still give all that they have to give. We especially dedicated that day to emergency responders that came to the rescue, on the day that changed our world and lives forever.
