Harnett CARES

Harnett CARES (Community AIDS Resources, Education & Support) has formed to help address the needs of the more than 129 individuals reported to be living with HIV/AIDS in Harnett County (2004).

The mission of Harnett CARES is to promote awareness, education, and fundraising for HIV/AIDS in Harnett County and to support individuals, families and the community who are infected and affected by this disease.

How You Can Be Involved

  • Support Harnett CARES and its mission
  • Join the task force at its monthly meetings – you can represent yourself, community, agency, or organization
  • Invite Harnett CARES to partner with your agency or organization to provide educational opportunities and programs for the community
  • Network with Harnett CARES to respond with compassion to emergency assistance requests

Meeting Schedule

Harnett CARES currently meets monthly at Triangle South Enterprise Center, 600 South Magnolia Avenue, Dunn. Meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. Please call 910-814-6195 for meeting dates.

Programs and Activities

  • Sponsored World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil at Dunn City Hall
  • Partnered with Tri-County Community Health Center to provide HIV, syphilis, cholesterol, and blood pressure screening at local apartment complex
  • Conducted House on Fire program at Mt. Pisgah OFWB Church in observance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness and Information Day
  • Distributed HIV/AIDS information in the Latino community and was interviewed on 96.9 FM La Ley (Spanish radio station) in observance of National Latino AIDS Awareness Day
  • Compiled HIV/AIDS Resource Guide for Harnett County
