Vasectomy, which is a form of permanent contraception, is also known as male sterilization. The Harnett County Department of Public Health offers vasectomy assistance through the North Carolina Regional Vasectomy program.

The vasectomy is a safe and highly effective method of birth control accepted by many couples throughout the world. This procedure can prevent pregnancy by blocking the transport of sperm out of the testes.

The vasectomy program does have guidelines and requirements; Must be 21 years of age, the fee is based on family size and income, health insurance is accepted, assistance is available for uninsured, requires a mandatory 30 day waiting period after consent forms are signed, travel outside of Harnett County for the surgery.
