STORY OF THE QUILT SQUARE HORSE AND WAGON BY THE ERWIN EXTENSION
HOMEMAKERS CLUB FOR HARNETT COUNTY HISTORICAL QUILT, 1989 Erwin Quilt Square Horse and Wagon This
horse and wagon depicts the method by which cotton was transported to
the mill. The Erwin Cotton Mills Company owned thousands of acres of
land on which cotton was grown. The people who lived on these farms and
produced the cotton for the mill had a lifestyle akin to a share cropper
or tenant farmer. The bales of cotton were brought to the mill, one at a
time, by horse and wagon. Written
