The Local History Room at HCPL provides basic research materials historians and genealogists with an emphasis on Harnett County and the Cape Fear Valley. Unique materials in the HCPL collection include a Vertical File, an Obituary File, Picture File (from the collections of the late Talbott McNeill Stewart and Luci Uzzle, which are viewable on the library's online catalog. The library also has a small collection of old and new maps as well as a few local schools' Yearbooks. The Library also has a folder for each senior class of Lillington High School 1944-1977. The library owns microfilm copies of Harnett County Census Records, 1790-1930 as well as the Harnett County News for the years 1919-2001, bound issues of The State magazine from 1959- present, the N.C. Folklore Society Journal and the N.C. Historical Review. We also own a collection of primary source materials covering North Carolina History from the earliest days of the colony to the War between the States. All materials are non-circulating. The Local History Room is open during regular business hour of the HCPL. However, this room is also used for group meetings. If you are coming from a distance, please call ahead and make sure that you can get into the Local History Room. (910-893-3446)
