Goals and objectives
Goal 7. Adults who use the library will have access to instruction and resources to develop the skills needed to find, evaluate, and use information effectively in meeting their daily needs.
- The number of adult information literacy programs sponsored by the library will increase by 7 per cent each year for the next five years.
- The number of people who attend adult information literacy programs will increase by 7 per cent each year for the next five years.
- By 2005/2006, at least 85% of the adults who have used the library’s information literacy instruction and resources will indicate on a survey that the library has helped them develop the skills needed to find, evaluate, and use information effectively in their daily needs.
Goal 8. Children who use the library will have access to instruction and resources to develop the skills needed to find, evaluate, and use information effectively in meeting their school-related needs.
- The number of children’s information literacy programs sponsored by the library will increase by 4 per cent each year for the next five years.
- The number of children who attend children’s information literacy programs will increase by 2 per cent each year for the next five years.
- By 2005/2006, at least 85% of the parents of children who have used the library’s information literacy instruction and resources will indicate on a survey that the library has helped their children develop the skills needed to find, evaluate, and use information effectively in their daily needs.
Selected activities
- The library staff will provide or sponsor workshops that address adult and children’s information literacy.
- The library staff will provide or sponsor workshops on the use of NC LIVE resources.
- The library staff will continue to provide microcomputers for the public for self-instruction, as well as for typing reports, resumes, or assignments.
- The library staff will purchase materials to enable adults and children to learn and use the computer resources on their own.
- The library staff will provide one-on-one assistance in the use of the library’s computer hardware and software to library users.
- The library staff will take advantage of the Harnett County Tech Force to provide assistance in the use of the library’s computer hardware and software to library users.
