Harnett County Commissioner Barbara McKoy has been appointed to serve on the State Health Coordinating Council by Governor Roy Cooper. Commissioner McKoy was appointed to the council as a Rural County Government Representative.
“I’m grateful that these North Carolinians have agreed to serve in these important roles and share their talent to benefit our state,” said Gov. Cooper in announcing McKoy’s appointment, along with several others.
Commissioner McKoy was elected to the Harnett County Board of Commissioners in 2014. She is a retired business agent for Workers United, and has been a community activist in Harnett County for more than 20 years.
Commissioner McKoy serves on the boards of numerous organizations including the Harnett County Economic Development Council, Johnston-Lee-Harnett Community Action, Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, Library Board, Harnett County Nonprofit Committee, Western Medical Group Board of Directors for Harnett County, and the Lillington Grove Free Will Baptist Church Board of Trustees.
She helped found the Harnett County Council for Women, Harnett County United PAL, and Harnett County Food Pantry.
She has previously served on several state boards including the N.C. Council for Women and N.C. Community Development Council, and on the board for Habitat for Humanity of Harnett County.
Commissioner McKoy and her husband, Willie, have two sons—Victor and Bryant.
