Harnett County Department of Social Services will begin accepting applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) on Monday, December 3, 2018. LIEAP provides eligible households with a one-time payment to the household’s heating vendor to offset the high cost of heating during the cold-weather months.
In order to apply, households must meet the following requirements:
⇒ Have at least one U.S. citizen or non-citizen who meets eligibility criteria
⇒ Have income equal to or less than 130 percent of the federal poverty limit
⇒ Have resources, such as saving and checking accounts, cash on hand, at or below $2,250
⇒ Be responsible for the household’s heating cost
Households containing a person age 60 or older, or someone receiving disability benefits through the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services, can apply starting on Monday, December 3, 2018. All other households can apply from Wednesday, January 2, 2019 through Friday, March 29, 2019. Applications can be submitted in person at the Harnett County Department of Social Services Office, located at 311 W Cornelius Harnett Boulevard, Lillington, NC 27546.
The Department of Social Services is also currently implementing the Crisis Intervention Program. The program is aimed at helping households in the community that are in danger of having their main heating or cooling source disconnected depending on the season.
