Child Support Services Moves to Government Complex

Harnett County Department of Social Services (DSS) announced that the Child Support Services Division will move to a new office space at the Harnett County Government Complex, located at 311 W. Cornelius Harnett Boulevard, Lillington.  Staff will move to the new office building this week, with the goal of being fully moved by the end of the week.  Child Support Services staff will continue providing support to residents during the move.

The Child Support Services Division provides services that are available to parents and/or nonparent caretakers of minor children. Services provided by Harnett County Child Support Services include: establishment of paternity, establishment or modifying of child support orders, enforcement of child support orders, collection and processing of child support ordered payments.

In Fall 2019, the County broke ground at the Harnett County Government Complex for a new expansion of the existing Harnett County Department of Social Services building. This new office space will allow Child Support Services, which is currently housed in rented space in Erwin, to join the rest of Social Services in Lillington. It will also provide additional space for DSS to expand as Harnett County’s population – and the demand for County services – continues to grow. The Division has been housed in a rented office building in Erwin for the past 25 years.

“I am very excited to have all of our Harnett County Department of Social Services staff and services at one location,” stated Paul Polinski, Director of Harnett County Department of Social Services.  “This consolidation will allow the residents of our County to get assistance in one location, and the move will increase the efficiency of our services due to Child Support being located in the main office and being closer to the Harnett County Courthouse. We have appreciated the hospitality from Wincor Management, Erwin Police Department, and residents of the Town of Erwin over the past several years.”

The opening of the new expansion of the Department of Social Services building is the first step in completing the County’s Master Plan project, which was approved by the Harnett County Board of Commissioners in Fall 2017.

“Consolidating services in a centralized location for County residents has been a top priority of the Board,” stated County Manager Paula Stewart. “As we continue to see population growth throughout the County, it is important for us to provide services that meet these increased service demands, create more efficient operations, and offer a better experience for our residents.”

County officials also approved the construction of the new Harnett County Resource Center & Library, which will house a new Public Library, Veterans Services, Parks & Recreation, County Administration, and a large multi-use training/meeting space. The Resource Center & Library is scheduled to open to the public in early 2021.

Harnett County Department of Social Services offices are closed for public access due to COVID-19; however, staff continue to support residents needs virtually during this time. Staff can be reached between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday by phone at 1-800-992-9457 or 910-814-6880.
