Harnett Literacy Program Harnett County Literacy began in 1985 as a grassroots volunteer organization determined to wipe out adult illiteracy in this area. Now incorporated and established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, that orginal mission still drives the staff, members, volunteers, board and students at HCL.
HCL provides FREE basic adult literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. Based on the philosophy of adult literacy pioneer, Dr. Frank Laubach, HCL believes in "each one teach one." Volunteer tutors are matched one-to-one throughout Harnett County with individual students at convenient times and locations. Small group classes are available for 3+ students. Free tutor training workshops are held several times per year. Contact HCL to register for the next workshop.
HCL's office, main classroom and computer learning lab are located near the post office in Dunn on the 1st floor of Triangle South Enterprise Center (the old Magnolia School). Office hours are Tuesday & Wednesday from 10am - 3pm EST. The monthly meeting is held in the cafeteria on the 1st Wednesday of each month. All are welcome to join.
