Raw Water Intake Project

Harnett County Public Utilities is currently expanding the Cape Fear River raw water intake facility. These improvements will increase the amount of water available per day to 36 million gallons. This has been a very challenging project, but one that will greatly expand the capacity and efficiency of the system. The following pictures document the progress of the project.

1) Beginning the project

2) Trackhoe excavating the river bed, Port-a-Dam holding river back

5) One of three intake screens - each rated at 12 million gallons per day

7) 60 inch intake ductile iron pipes

8) Two of the three intake screens installed

9) Intake under construction

10) Construction of intakes near completion

11) One of several times the site was flooded by the Cape Fear River
