Solid Waste 

The Harnett County Solid Waste Division in cooperation with the Harnett County Center of NC State Extension, and the NCDA & CS Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program will sponsor a one day Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held at a new location, Anderson Creek Landfill, – 1086 Poplar Drive, Spring Lake, NC.

In addition to household hazardous waste, agricultural and home pesticides and herbicides will also be collected. Items being collected include; oil-based paints and stains, aerosols, solvents, cleaners, degreasers, alkaline (e.g. household cleaners, drain cleaners) acids, oxidizers (such as pool chemicals) rechargeable batteries, lead acid batteries, items containing mercury (including fluorescent bulbs), and thermostats. Propane cylinders, oil, and antifreeze will also be collected. Latex paint will be accepted at the event, but latex paint is non-hazardous and can be disposed of in normal trash as long as it is dried and hardened. Cat litter can be used to help dry and harden latex paint. Pharmaceuticals will not be accepted during this collection event. Pharmaceuticals can be dropped off anytime during business hours at a collection box located just inside the Harnett County sheriff’s office.
