Teens As Parents

Mission Statement

ASSIST TEEN PARENTS IN OBTAINING PRENATAL HEALTH CARE, LEARN PARENTING AND CHILD CARE SKILLS AND CONTINUE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, WHICH WILL DEVELOP SELF-RESPECT AND DECISION MAKING SKILLS FOR LIFE GOALS.


HARNETT COUNTY WORKING TOGETHER...

  • Assisting teen parents to assume responsibility for their child and themselves.
  • Improving access to health care.
  • Creating partnerships between religious institutions, schools, organizations and individuals to strengthen the resources available to teen parents.
  • Providing opportunities for teen parents to develop self-respect, parenting, childcare and decision making skills.
  • Promoting positive behaviors and values.
  • Decreasing the dropout rate among teen parents.


Teens As Parents strives to provide a strong membership, representative of Harnett County’s geographic, socioeconomic, public and private diversity.

Our program provides a network of organizations to assist with the needs of teen parents.


TAP welcomes organizations willing to help by providing financial assistance, meeting facilities, and other resources.


Volunteers who are willing to work with teen parents and their children are always needed.

TAP is part of a not-for-profit organization. Grants and donations from public or private sources are always welcomed.


EDUCATIONAL PLAN...

This program coordinates the needs of teen parents and their children through comprehensive educational approaches to provide a healthy lifestyle.


TAP teaches teens to succeed through mentoring, educational home visits, attendance incentives, monthly support groups, community support and adolescent pregnancy prevention.

CURRICULUM PLAN...

Our outreach staff uses educational materials specifically designed for teen parents. Topics include:

  • Child Health and Safety
  • Parenting Skills
  • Decision Making Skills
  • Setting and Acheiving Realisitc Goals
  • Child Care
  • Nutrition and Breastfeeding
  • Self-Esteem
  • Money Management
