Deadline to submit a letter of request March 9, 2023
Harnett County announced funding was awarded from the Federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program Phase 40 for $47,569. This funding is to supplement established emergency food and shelter programs across the county. Phase 40 will run concurrently with Phase 39 and AARPA (funds awarded last year). These funds may be utilized by an organization for:
Food Services
Shelter Services
Supplies and Equipment Purchases
Utility Services for Clients
The selection was made by a Committee utilizing funding provided by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from the American Red Cross; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; Salvation Army; United Jewish Communities and, United Way of America. A local board made up of Emergency Management, Social Services, United Way, Senior Citizens Council, Cooperative Extension, etc. are responsible for recommending how the funds are awarded among the emergency food and shelter programs in the local area.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local organizations chosen to receive funds must: 1) be a private non-profit or government non-profit, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice nondiscrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and or shelter programs, and 5) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board. Qualifying organizations are urged to apply. These agencies must also have a UEI (Unique Entity Identifier) if you do not currently have this identifier for your agency you may obtain from SAM.GOV. Your agency must also have an FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number) to receive funding from the EFS program.
Harnett County has distributed Emergency Food and Shelter funds in previous years. These organizations were responsible for providing over 41,000 meals and 7,000 nights of lodging.
