Harnett County is embarking on a process to develop its first ever strategic plan. The plan will establish county priorities and serve as a roadmap for the County’s departments for the coming years. The strategic plan will be rooted in a mission to serve the community and will align a vision for the future of Harnett County with actionable strategic goals. The purpose of this webpage is to share more information about the process and to ask for your assistance in making sure every Harnett County resident has an opportunity to provide input into the plan.
THE PROCESS
Over the last few months, Harnett County leaders participated in strategic planning workshops, informing the process and the strategic planning framework. The Harnett County Managers and Directors retreat was held in June and the Board of Commissioners retreat was held in August. Below is a project timeline providing an overview of what has been accomplished thus far and the next steps in the process.
PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT AND INPUT
The information below includes an overview of the next phase of the strategic planning process, Public Engagement and Input. We are seeking input from the public and the County’s workforce to inform the strategic plan. Thank you in advance for championing this effort.
The Board of Commissioners is asking all County residents, employers, and community stakeholders to complete a strategic planning survey that will be used to inform the strategic plan. The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete and is confidential. The survey asks for basic information to ensure we have heard from a wide variety of community members.
The survey will be active on the County website beginning Friday, October 8 through Friday, October 29. The survey will be shared widely via email and social media, and on the County’s website. The survey can be completed at this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HCSPcitizensurvey.
Hardcopies of the survey will also be available at each of Harnett County’s public library locations. A list of library locations may be found at https://harnett.libguides.com/about/locations.

During each workshop, residents will learn more about the strategic planning process and will have opportunities to share their priorities for Harnett County.
