TECHNICAL SERVICES:
Technical Assistance is available on issues relating to erosion control and
water quality (advice and/or planning) to landowners, agricultural producers
and the general public.
COST SHARE PROGRAMS:
The Soil and Water Conservation District accepts applications for eligible
practices under the NC Agricultural Cost Share Program to improve water
quality while preventing and controlling soil and water erosion
USDA-NRCS accepts applications for eligible practices under the
Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Wildlife Habitat
Incentives Program (WHIP), Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP), and
Provides information on the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).
PARTNERSHIPS:
The Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and The Natural
Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) work together to provide
information and help not only to the farming community but to the
General public as well. Other agencies that are considered partners and
play an important role in providing technical and informational service
include NC State Forest Service, NC Cooperative Extension Service, the
Farm Service Agency and the Wildlife Agencies.
EQUIPMENT:
The SWCD Supervisors provide No Till Drills to encourage better
farming practices. The rent charged is used for repairs and
replacement. The District has netting, staples, risers, and tees that can
be purchased and used for erosion and water control practices.
SOIL SURVEY OF HARNETT COUNTY:
This is a very useful source of information that can be used in land use
planning . It contains soil maps, soil characteristics and classifications, soil
properties, and tables. The Soil Survey Books may be viewed or picked up at
the Harnett Soil & Water Conservation District Office or USDA-NRCS Office.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT:
The County provides office space and financial support. The District Partners
with USDA-NRCS to provide service and technical assistance to the County.
The District Partners with USDA-NRCS in providing assistance to applicants
for establishing soil and water conservation programs and practices.
