Harnett County Government is warning residents about a recent scam involving individuals falsely claiming to be employees of the Harnett County Animal Shelter. These scammers are contacting members of the public and requesting payment for alleged animal medical treatments.

This scam appears to be targeting individuals who have shared their phone numbers publicly—particularly on flyers or online posts for lost pets.

Please be aware that the Harnett County Animal Shelter will never request payment from individuals for veterinary care or treatment over the phone, by email, or through text.

If you receive any suspicious communication of this nature, do not provide any personal or financial information. Instead, report the incident to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 893-9111 or contact the Animal Shelter directly at (910) 814-2952.
