Harnett County seeking citizen feedback on greenway feasibility study
Friday, August 22, 2025
Harnett County Parks and Recreation invites citizens of Harnett County to attend a public meeting and share their feedback on proposed greenway routes.
This open house meeting will be on September 9, 2025 from 5:00 – 6:15 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Harnett County Resource Center and Library – Room 103 B/C. Address: 455 McKinney Parkway, Lillington, NC 27546.
In the 2021 Harnett County Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenway Plan, Harnett County Parks and Recreation identified three (3) trail segments as priorities:
- Lillington to Campbell University
- Campbell University to Coats
- Coats to the Dunn-Erwin Rail Trail
Harnett County is currently working with Alta Planning + Design to conduct a feasibility study on the creation of each, which will identify route alternatives. The results of this study will provide guidance on how to best implement the creation plans in phases.
The study will also analyze ongoing development, public input, and past planning efforts.
Before proceeding with development, Parks and Recreation is gathering citizen feedback to inform the decision making process.
We are encouraging citizens to participate as this is a major project in our community.
Citizens are also highly encouraged to attend the public meeting to review the study process and hear public comments. This is an opportunity to hear explanations of the feasibility study and current plans and to voice opinions.
To review the draft study, you can visit the Parks and Recreation website here: Greenway Feasibility Studies

Harnett County is one of the fastest growing counties in North Carolina with approximately 146,000 residents. Harnett's tagline of "Strong Roots, New Growth," describes a county in transition, one that values its rural agricultural heritage while also embracing new growth and industry. Harnett County is optimally located just between North Carolina's capital city of Raleigh and the internationally recognized Research Triangle Park to the north, and the nation's largest military installation in Fort Bragg to the south.
