Harnett County Departments to Partner with Cambell University and Central NC Tax Assistance to Host Free Tax Preparation

Harnett County is excited to share that the Harnett County Public Library and Division on Aging are partnering with community organizations to offer free tax preparation services for the 2026 filing season. Services will be provided through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Volunteers will be able to process most returns on the spot, so please plan approximately an hour for completion. While most forms will be processed, select forms and schedules may not be completed on the spot.
Harnett County Public Library System
The Harnett County Library System is partnering with the Campbell University School of Business to offer tax preparation services. Services will be provided in the Resource Center and Library Training Room. There is no need to schedule an appointment in advance. Individuals will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.
Harnett County Main Library
Address: 455 McKinney Parkway, Lillington, NC
Dates: Thursdays from February 5 – April 2, 2026 (excluding March 5)
Times: Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Harnett County Division on Aging
The Division on Aging is partnering with Central NC Tax Assistance, a 501c3 non-profit organization, to offer free tax assistance to qualifying individuals. Assistance will be provided at three locations by appointment only.
Erwin Public Library

All VITA services are free and provided through volunteers trained in tax law, IRS standards, and confidentiality best practices. To learn more, visit the IRS website here.
VITA volunteers will be unable to prepare returns involving delivery services (such as DoorDash), tax-exempt overtime, and certain other non-traditional forms of income.
Before arriving for VITA assistance, individuals should ensure they have all the necessary materials. Otherwise, volunteers will be unable to provide assistance.
