Harnett County employees now offered paid paternal leave effective June 2026

Harnett County is proud to announce the implementation of a new Paid Parental Leave policy for employees. The Harnett County Board of Commissioners approved the new policy at the board meeting on April 14, 2026. The policy will begin on June 1, 2026.

Employee feedback played a key role in shaping this initiative. Through surveys and applicant feedback, many expressed a desire for paid parental leave, leadership listened and acted. Recognizing the importance of supporting employees both professionally and personally, leadership took meaningful action to implement this benefit.

This decision reflects a continued commitment to valuing employees voices, fostering a positive workplace culture, and providing meaningful support during some of life’s most important moments.

The new Paid Parental Leave provides time for eligible employees to recover, bond with, and care for a newborn or a child placed for adoption, foster care, or custody.

  • All employees (mother and legal spouse) are granted up to four (4) weeks of Paid Parental Leave for recovery and bonding following the birth, adoption or placement of a child.

Human Resources Director, Janice Lane, presented the new policy at the board meeting on April 14, 2026, stating the policy will strengthen recruitment efforts and will support the county’s strategic goal of organizational excellent and will place the county as an employer of choice.

This benefit has been consistently identified as a priority through employee feedback and applicant interest. Its adoption reflects the County’s ongoing commitment to employee well-being, work-life balance, and fostering a supportive workplace culture. We believe this investment will not only support our current employees during important life moments but also strengthen our ability to attract and retain a talented and dedicated workforce in the years to come,” said Lane.
