Free Tax Assistance services for Harnett County residents, begin February 8, 2024

Free tax services are available from February 8 through April 4

Harnett County Public Library in partnership with Campbell University School of Business, will provide free tax return services to Harnett County residents beginning on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

Harnett County residents will have the opportunity to get their tax returns prepared on Thursdays, from February 8 through February 29 and March 14 through April 4. Tax assistance will not be offered on March 7.

“The Harnett County Public Library is excited about this collaboration with Campbell University to bring this valuable resource to the community. As a part of our ongoing commitment to support our patrons, this initiative aims to make the often-daunting task of tax filing more accessible and stress-free,” said Angela McCauley, Harnett County Library Director.

Free tax preparations will be available on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Harnett County Resource Center and Library Training room, located at 455 McKinney Parkway in Lillington.

Tax returns will be prepared and filed electronically by volunteers from the Campbell University School of Business Internal Revenue Service (IRS) sanctioned program, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).

Tax assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and no appointments are required. Volunteers will complete the most standard tax returns.

Those seeking tax preparation services must have a photo ID (and photo ID for the spouse, if applicable), social security card (or ITIN) for each person on the tax return (including dependents), and all taxpayers’ tax forms.

Free Federal tax forms will be available on-site. State tax forms can be obtained by calling the NC Department of Revenue at 1-877-252-3052 or visiting http://www.dor.state.nc.us.
