
Harnett County AUXCOMM is a volunteer group of communications specialists that support Harnett County Emergency Management during weather events, disasters, incident response, Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations, shelter operations and other types of emergencies. Their work is part of the Harnett County Emergency Communications network that includes Harnett County Emergency Management, Harnett County Sheriff's Office 911 Communications, public information sharing and local to state communications. Their primary focus is building the skills required for licensed operators to communicate on Amateur Radio frequencies, Harnett County AUXCOMM volunteers also have opportunities to:
- Operate High Frequency voice and digital platforms (Winlink, SHARES)
- Receive training on specialized deployable public safety communications systems and equipment
- Support local public safety agencies during incidents, events, and exercises
- Evaluate new and emerging technologies in use or being considered by AUXCOMM or public safety agencies

TRAINING
Harnett County AUXCOMM routinely holds meetings at 6:00 PM on the third (3rd) Wednesday of each month. This is held in person at the Harnett County Emergency Operations Center and also remotely through a virtual teams meeting. General meetings are open to anyone interested in learning more about Amateur Radio, no FCC license required. Email hcem@harnett.org for information on the next scheduled training.
