Friday, January 20, 2023

Assistance available February 8 through April 5, 2023

Harnett County residents can get their tax returns prepared free on Wednesdays, February 8 through March 1 and March 15 through April 5 at the Harnett County Public Library Resource Center and Library Training Room, located at 455 McKinney Parkway in Lillington.

Free Tax Prep will be available each Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM beginning February 8 through April 5, with the exception of March 8. There will be no tax prep on Wednesday, March 8.

Tax returns will be prepared and filed electronically by volunteers from the Campbell University School of Business working with the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Tax help is provided on a first come, first served basis.  No appointments are taken. The volunteers will complete most standard tax returns although there are a few forms and schedules they will not prepare.

Those seeking tax preparation services must have a photo ID (and photo ID for the spouse, if applicable), social security card (or ITIN) for each person on the tax return (including dependents), and all of the taxpayers’ tax forms.

Free Federal tax forms will be available on site.  No North Carolina state forms have been provided this year.  State tax forms can be obtained by calling the NC Department of Revenue at 1-877-252-3052 or visiting http://www.dor.state.nc.us.
