Harnett County Emergency Management Updates Severe Weather Alert Notifications

Friday, July 1, 2022

New changes go into effect August 1

Harnett County Emergency Management announced changes to the way severe weather alert notifications will be delivered to the public. These new changes will go into effect on August 1, 2022.

Harnett County Emergency Management will no longer send out weather watch and warning emails. To receive weather watch and warning alerts, interested individuals will need to register with the County’s RAVE Public Notification System.

“In an effort to reduce warning fatigue and stay up-to-date on technology, our weather Watch and Warning emails will no longer be automatically sent out through our Emergency Management email,” stated Emergency Management Coordinator Zach Shean. “If residents would like to receive severe weather notifications, we encourage you to sign up for our RAVE Public Notification System.”

The RAVE Public Notification System is used by Harnett County Emergency Services to contact the public in the event of an emergency. The system will send notifications on any evacuations, sheltering, and other emergency notifications during a severe weather event. Individuals can select how to receive information by text message, email, phone call, or a combination of all three.

Interested individuals can sign up for the RAVE Public Notification System by following these steps.

  1. Register and create an account. Visit getrave.com/login/harnett. Click on the green register button in the top right-hand corner and create your account. Fill in the information such as first and last name, email, and mobile number. A unique password will also need to be created and consent will need to be given for the Terms of Use.
  2. Confirm your mobile carrier and mobile number. Select your mobile phone carrier and provide the cell phone number you would like to receive notifications.
  3. Confirm your account. Check your email for a confirmation message. Click on the link to receive a 4-digit two-factor authentication code on your cell phone. Enter your 4-digit code to confirm your account.
  4. Subscribe to weather alerts. Click on the “Opt-In Lists” tab. Check the box on the right-hand side under “Subscribe” for NWS Weather Alerts. If you would like to receive all public alerts, select the “Public Opt-In” box too.
