Public Swimming Pool Information

All public swimming pools are required to be permitted and inspected annually. A public pool means any structure, chamber, or tank containing an artificial body of water used by the public. It includes swimming pools, spas, wading pools or any specialized water recreation attractions such as water slides or lazy rivers.

Residential pools are not permitted by the Health Department but must be approved prior to installation if the residence has a septic tank or well. Public pools must meet 15A NCAC 18A .2500, "Rules Governing Public Swimming Pools." These rules may be viewed by going to the website www.deh.enr.state.nc.us/ehs/rules.htm Copies may also be obtained by contacting our office.
